A total of 100 Saudi young men are scheduled to launch a campaign in Jeddah to repair potholes and ditches in roads and public squares. The campaign, which coincides with the advent of Ramadan, will be carried out under the direct supervision of the Jeddah Mayoralty. Muhammad Bawarith and Mohand Baswedan, the supervisors of the voluntary project, said the idea was formed before the holy month. “We came up with the idea when we noticed several cars belonging to citizens and residents break down because of the ditches in most streets and roads.” They said they have surveyed most of the roads, public squares and streets and identified the holes which need to be repaired. So far they have found 700 holes and ditches. The volunteers will be divided into groups and will work daily for two hours throughout Ramadan from 9.00 P.M. to 11.00 P.M. They said they are carrying out the project under the motto of “Jeddah Ghair without Ditches”, stressing that the participation of the authorities concerned will ensure the success of the work.
