The General Authority for Civil Aviation has increased the free-of-charge drop-off time limit at King Abdul Aziz International Airport departure terminals to 10 minutes after five proved insufficient for vehicles to unload luggage and passengers. “The extra time will help cope with a noticeable increase in airport users and the resultant congestion at departure terminals,” said Abdul Ilah Filimban of the airport authority. The change accompanies a series of other measures at the international airport, Filimban said, such as the introduction of bus and taxi lanes to improve traffic flow, an increase in parking spaces to 4,500, and the installation of security cameras at parking lots. Parking lots have also been resurfaced, numbered, and fitted with adequate lighting and electronic gates. Umrah pilgrim parking areas have also been expanded and fitted with shaded seating areas, and parking for 79 buses has been provided at a site away from the terminal to avoid exposing persons to noise and pollution.
