Sixty percent of the new Jeddah to Makkah highway is ready and expected to be open for use soon, an official from the Roads Department has said. According to the source, the 28-km, four-lane road project will significantly ease transport for pilgrims traveling between King Abdul Aziz International Airport and Makkah and reduce traffic on the current Haramain Highway. “The highway runs from Brayman Fahdi Al-Sham via the Madina to Makkah Highway and enters Makkah from the north,” the official said, noting that the works involve the construction of overpasses to dispense with traffic lights. The official also added that the third phase of work on the Jeddah Ring Road will be under way within the next few days, with work continuing on the first two phases of construction. The total length of the second ring road, he said, would be 90 km, beginning from the south and east of Jeddah up to the Dhahban junction.
