Some 100 families were rendered homeless in a fire that hit the Baseco compound in Manila's port area early Friday. No casualties were reported. Fire Officer 2 said Lords Hernandez of the Manila fire Department, said the fire started at 1:22 a.m. at the house of one Jerry Dalsan at Block 7, Old Site, Baseco. The blaze, which reached the fifth alarm, spread quickly to some 50 shanties. It was put out at 2:34 a.m. Damage was placed at P200,000.
