The Senior Scholars Council has congratulated King Abdullah, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, for issuing a Royal Order to establish King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy (KACARE). Dr. Fahd Al-Majed, Secretary General of council's, said this development embodies the determination to make this city a reality which benefits the Saudi society. In a statement to Saudi Press Agency, he affirmed that this development also reflects the great attention given by the King to the country and its citizens and shows his keenness on enabling them to go on the path of plentiful progress and prosperity which is not affected by energy and resource's changes as well as increase in cost of operations. “This is an evidence of the farsightedness and wisdom of our leadership which should be appreciated,” he added. Former commerce and trade minister Hashim Abdullah Yamani was appointed to head the center to be set up in Riyadh. The new center will draft a national policy for nuclear power and supervise the Kingdom's use of atomic energy and nuclear waste. It will represent Saudi Arabia at the International Atomic Energy Agency.
