Prince Naif Bin Abdul Aziz, Second Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, said that the Kingdom was one of the first countries to be affected by extremism in thought. He said these people are not committed to the principles of the Holy Book of Allah and the Sunnah of the Prophet (pbuh). These principles are based on moderation, justice, mercy, the preservation of the dignity of human beings and the protection of life and rights, Prince Naif said. He was speaking at the inauguration of a major conference on terrorism here Sunday. The four-day conference has been organized by the Islamic University in Madina, in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior and is titled “Terrorism between Extremism of Thought and Thoughts of Extremism”. Prince Naif was received by Prince Abdul Aziz Bin Majed , Governor of Madina region and a number of other princes and senior officials. Prince Naif said that the conference is not to highlight the dangers of deviant thought as “we all know this from our knowledge and understanding of the teachings and principles of Islam.” “What I hope will be achieved by this conference is to reach a scholarly vision that will contribute, Allah willing, to the efforts to deal with extremist thought and protect the individual and the Ummah from its danger.” Director of the university, Dr. Mohammed Bin Ali Ala'qla, highlighted the constructive and peaceful nature of Islam. He stressed that terrorists undermine Islam. Ala'qla praised Prince Naif's efforts to defend the country and fight terrorists.
