The military is looking into claims from a property developer that the Mayor's Office granted him a building permit for land suspected of being on a protected site of Islamic heritage inside a military zone close to the Prophet's Mosque in Madina. Regional commander Major-General Abdul Aziz Al-Junaidi issued an order Tuesday for military authorities to investigate a zone at Jabal Sila' to the north west of the Prophet's Mosque. “Jabal Sila' is a military zone and subject to the protection of the Ministry of Defense and Aviation and the National Guard,” Al-Junaidi said, adding that instructions dating back four years ordered the “halting of all works at the site to protect Islamic heritage”. The property developer himself told Okaz that he had obtained a permit from the Mayor's Office to conduct works in the area certified by the mayoralty as part the “Qimat Sultana Development Zone”.
