Endowments play an important role in the development and welfare of society, said the Emir of Riyadh, Prince Salman Bin Abdul Aziz here Saturday. He was chairing the second meeting of the Supreme Committee of King Saud University's Endowments. Addressing the meeting, he said that “our religion compels us to give charity.” He said all forms of “endowments have become an important requirement for the improvement and development of society”. The Prince noted that the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Abdullah, has established many endowment foundations in the area of housing and has also assisted the poor and needy. He said the Crown Prince has also been involved in supporting many charities. He said that charitable works have been supported by all officials of the Saudi government. Prince Salman emphasized the importance of supporting the University's endowments for the development of education and the promotion of scientific research at the university. In his speech, the university's Rector, Dr. Abdullah Bin Abdulrahman Al-Othman thanked Prince Salman for his support of the university. The Prince then inaugurated the Prince Salman Program for Loyalty to the University. The meeting was attended by Prince Khaled Bin Sultan Bin Abdul Aziz, Assistant Minister of Defense and Aviation and Inspector General for Military Affairs, a number of princes, ministers and officials.
