The Waikato Chiefs beat the Lions 72-65 in the highest scoring game in Super 14 history. Richard Kahui scored three tries for the Chiefs and Wandile Mjekevu responded with three for the Lions as the teams produced an amazing nine tries each and 137 points at Coca-Cola Park Friday. The Chiefs led 27-25 at halftime but looked to have sealed the victory with more than a quarter of the match remaining. The Lions then scored four unanswered tries in the final seven minutes and incredibly earned a second bonus point when Earl Rose converted Jacques Lombaard's score in the 86th minute. Olivier shines for Cheetahs In Durban, flyhalf Naas Olivier booted 14 points as the Cheetahs claimed their first win in this season's Super 14 with a 25-20 victory over the Sharks in an all-South African tussle Friday. Fullback and man-of-the-match Riaan Viljoen added a 70-meter solo try and two long-range penalties to help the visitors to their first away win in the competition in 11 attempts dating back to May 2007. Reds beat Crusaders Quade Cooper scored two tries and kicked three conversions and five penalties for a team-record 31 points as the Queensland Reds beat the Canterbury Crusaders 41-20 in Super 14 rugby Friday. The Reds, who lost to arch-rival New South Wales 30-28 last week in the first round, also had tries from Rod Davies and Digby Ioane to pick up a bonus point awarded for scoring four tries. Auckland downs Otago In New Zealand, fullback Paul Williams scored two tries against his old side as the Auckland Blues overcame a 12-7 halftime deficit to beat Otago 19-15 in Super 14 rugby Friday. Williams, making his first start for Auckland, scored a try in each half. Auckland winger Rene Ranger, whom Williams displaced in the starting 15, came off the bench to score a try but was later sin-binned in a match punctuated by penalties. Otago flyhalf Michael Hobbs scored his third try in two matches, while Israel Dagg also scored a try and kicked a penalty.
