The high school and elementary chess teams of the International Philippine School (IPSA) emerged overall champions in the First Annual Inter-School All Filipino Chess Tournament-Eastern Province organized and sponsored by Beta Sigma Fraternity Alumni Association and the Philippine Overseas Labor Office-Eastern Region Operation. The tournament was participated by three Filipino schools, including IPSA, Al-Andalus International School Al-Khobar (AAIS), and Al-Jazeera International School in Dammam. IPSA won the championship in the high school and elementary categories, settled second-runner in the high school division, and placed first-runner up in the elementary category. AAIS came second in the overall billing, winning the first runner-up in the high school division and placing second runner-up in the elementary category. The IPSA champion team, high school division, was composed of Aaron Paul Sabaria, Adrian Taguinod, Louis Lovel Fabria, and Camille Erika Samson. They were coached by Maleorene Darping. The IPSA second runner-up team members were Jerry Tabalong Jr., Carl Joseph Samson, Ma. Joyce Ann Orillano, and Kristian Lawrence Caringal. Their coach was Ricky Enriquez. In the elementary category, IPSA's champion players were Bryan Roger Bernardo, Bienvenido Daguinod, Michael Angelo Mesina, and Carlo Antonio Saguisag. The coach was Joseph Cortez. The first runner-up in the same event was composed Jezzidin Asilo, Kyle Mheeco Merced, Joel Villanueva, and Desmond John Tubije. Coach was Livin Rejuso The AAIS team that placed first runner-up in the high school division was composed of John Aldrine Torneros, John Ranhel Faculin, Charles Quizon, and Raja Sadiq de la Rosa. Their coaches were Virginia Dy and Glenn Villanueva. In the elementary category, the AAIS team members that placed second runner-up were Ashley Ortega, Aaron Jonas Bungay, Veejay Gurrobat, and Carlo Ashley de Guzman. Coaches were Cherry Amor Recato and Norma Hilag. The champion teams and first runner-up and second runner teams received trophies, while each member of every team got gold medal for the champions, silver for the first runner-up and bronze medal for the second runner up. The chess tournament was part of the region-wide Filipino Fun Day, which included chess, scrabble, basketball, and indoor games. The Filipino Fun Day is one of the on-going projects of Philippine labor attaché David Des T. Dicang to promote Filipino community unity and camaraderie in Eastern Province. The chairman of the tournament was Rey S. Liclican, while the tournament director was Ramon O. Aguilar. Edwin Aquino, an official of the tournament information committee, said the chess tournament will be an annual event of the Beta Sigma Fraternity Alumni Association and the Philippine Overseas Labor Office
