Director of the Health Affairs Administration in Jeddah Dr. Sami Badawood has opened the first session of the Patient's Health Safety Course for nurses at King Fahed Hospital's Studies and Researches Center on Saturday. The course has been organized by the Comprehensive Quality Control Department in Health Affairs Administration. More than 100 nurses are expected to attend the three-day course. The aim of the course is to increase the nurses' awareness about their own role in improving their nursing skills, said Samir Khodnana , Director of the Comprehensive Quality Control Department at the Health Affairs Administration. “We are all here today to achieve one aim, which is the patients' safety,” Badawood said. “As everybody knows, nursing is the only career that joins three important elements: science, work and sacrifice.” “We are not here today to raise the nurses' levels of mercy, coordination or even sympathy. Rather, we want to spread awareness among them about the importance of their role, as well as remind them about ways to be a perfect nurse by giving them lectures, studies and discuss the latest research with them.” Khodnana said health regulations around the world say that taking care of the patients during the treatment is the only way to ensure the patients' safety after finishing the treatment. “Six strategies must be achieved during nursing, and they include knowing the patient very well, ensuring the safety of the environment, resisting infections, accurate use of dangerous drugs, avoiding injuries to patients, as well as starting an effective communication between the patient and the nurse,” said Khodnana. __
