Bir Welfare Society here has announced construction of a second shelter home “Dar Aewa for orphans” spread over an area of 750 sq. meters. The project, estimated to cost SR6 million, will be a 16-unit shelter for orphans in Al-Nuzha District of Makkah. Dr. Tariq Bin Saleh Mohammed Jamal, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Al-Bir Society, said the four-floor complex will be a fully equipped shelter home for orphans. The project is in line with the objectives of the association and the teachings of Islam on the care for orphans, he said at the weekend. “Under the tenets of Islam, which call for social solidarity, we are responsible for providing accommodation for orphans and for helping them to lead a good life, which provides them with some compensation for the loss of their parents,” Jamal said. He also pointed out that the society has 12 housing complexes in various parts of Makkah in addition to six welfare houses accommodating more than 200 families. The organization also has various programs for the needy, regardless of whether or not they are orphans, including a back-to-school program, a program to provide new clothes during Eid and in the wintertime, as well as a program for feeding pilgrims during Ramadan. “The Al-Bir Society is seeking to achieve a number of objectives for the benefit of the members of the community in Makkah. These include the development of financial resources, increased investment and manpower in the field of charitable work, as well as the sharing of experience and information with other charitable organizations,” he said.
