One person has been reported killed after fire razed more than 100 homes before dawn Saturday in La Paz district, Iloilo City. The fire struck shortly after midnight while people in Iloilo City were preparing for one of the most anticipated fiestas in the country, the Dinagyang Festival, which is held every 4th Sunday of January. A radio dzMM report said the fire razed homes in Barangay Nabitasan, La Paz for about an hour. Iloilo City firemen were augmented by firefighters from nearby towns to put out the blaze, the report added. The report said that firemen have recovered a body from one of the gutted homes. Mopping up operations were ongoing while fire investigators determine the cause of the blaze. There were reports that the fire was ignited by an unattended candle. Hundreds of residents have been brought to a barangay gym and an elementary school. They are in need of food, water and clothing. With a report from Nonie Basco, radio dzMM – ABS
