The Jeddah chief of Civil Defense has said that flood-hit districts are now fit for the return of evacuated residents. Abdullah Al-Jedawi said that the damage assessment committees formed of 16 government bodies and other relevant organizations had submitted reports on the safety conditions of homes and other buildings such as schools, and that 75 percent of Al-Sawaa'ed and 90 percent of other areas have been made safe by repair and maintenance work. Following an inspection of the districts Wednesday, Al-Jedawi said that the reports had been submitted to each individual authority for study. “The reports said that electricity had been returned to all areas, the outer-structures of schools are fit for use, and road resurfacing is continuing in many areas,” Al-Jedawi said. “The reports conclude that residents may return home and schools can reopen for classes.”
