Akmal brothers withstood a fiery New Zealand attack to steer Pakistan to 307-8 on the third day of the first cricket Test here Thursday.
In company of elder brother Kamran, young Umar cracked a brilliant century (129) to steer Pakistan out of trouble. Kamran made 82. New Zealand paceman Shane Bond was the wrecker-in-chief with 4-93.
Earlier, New Zealand folded up for 429.
