Municipal contractors have failed to meet the deadline for 107 projects worth SR616 million in Riyadh, said Ahmad Al-Tuweijiri, Riyadh deputy mayor for municipal affairs. The delayed projects are part of a municipal package of 691 projects worth SR2.8 billion for road pavement, street lighting, water drainage networks, and municipal buildings. The available contractors, with their limited financial, administrative, and labor resources, have been swamped with projects, which eventually led to the delays, he said. The contractors will not be awarded additional projects unless they complete what they have been working on, he explained. Some contractors have also failed to set a delivery date for their current projects as they are still waiting for building and work materials, he added. But the Riyadh Municipality will intervene to get the materials the contactors require, he said.
