Britain's former European No. 1 Lee Westwood won the Portugal Masters Sunday to move top of the 2009 order of merit. A closing six-under-par 66 for a 23-under 265 four-round total earned the Englishman his first European Tour title in more than two years. He finished two strokes ahead of Italy's Francesco Molinari. Westwood's $730,000 first prize took him comfortably past the previous money-list (Race to Dubai) leader Rory McIlroy, who had to settle for a 66 and 12-under, earning him only 30th place. Trailing double US Open winner Retief Goosen by three strokes overnight, Westwood took a firm hold of the tournament with birdies at the first four holes. Molinari, recovering from a double-bogey on the seventh, caught Westwood by the 12th, only to let his rival get away by missing a putt of under three feet on the 16th to bogey. Westwood survived a visit to the Victoria club gardens after a wayward approach to the long 17th green and his birdie there with a stunning shot from over trees closed out Molinari. Including the $15m Dubai World Championship finale, there are a maximum five events left for the order of merit title-chasers. Three-time major champion Padraig Harrington, citing dehydration for a lack-lustre third round, chased the leading pair hard but the Irishman ran out of steam. Despite a bogey on the last for a 67, Harrington, finishing four strokes behind Westwood, took third, a shot better than Swede Peter Hanson (68) and Germany's Marcel Siem (67). South Africa's Goosen slipped away badly, closing with a 75 to end on 271, six shots behind the winner. Liang clinches China Classic Liang Wenchong became the OneAsia Tour's first Chinese champion Sunday, after a three-under-par 68 gave him a 14-under total of 270 and a four-stroke win in the $500,000 Midea China Classic. Zhang Lianwei birdied the par-five 18th to finish 10-under and deliver a Chinese one-two to the delight of the large galleries at the Royal Orchid International Golf Club in Shunde. Australian Peter Wilson birdied the last three holes for a 64 to share third place on nine-under with European Tour player Matthew Millar (65) and former New Zealand Open winner Michael Long (68). Liang, Asia's No. 1 in 2007, stretched his overnight lead with birdies at holes one, three, eight and 10, while a bogey on the par-five ninth was only his second dropped shot all week. Campbell, Piercy share lead In Las Vegas, Chad Campbell made a double bogey on the par-5 16th, then birdied the 18th for a 4-under 67 and a share of the third-round lead with Scott Piercy in the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open Saturday. Piercy – a Las Vegas local whose wife, Sara, delivered son Jett on Thursday – had a 65 to match Campbell at 17-under 196 at TPC Summerlin. Martin Laird (67) was a stroke back, and 2007 winner George McNeill (63), Jason Bohn (65), Jeff Klauk (66) and Bob Heintz (68) followed at 15 under. After eagling the par-4 12th and adding birdies on 13 and 15, Campbell dropped two strokes with the double bogey on 16. Charley Hoffman (64) was in a group at 14 under with first-round leaders Troy Matteson (70) and Tom Pernice (68). Rickie Fowler (69) was 13 under along with Kirk Triplett (66), US Presidents Cup player Hunter Mahan (67), Greg Chalmers (67) and Ryan Moore (70).
