About 25 percent of the expansion of Tabuk International Airport project has been completed and the remaining work is on the full swing, Abdullah Rehaimi, Chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), has said. The project, expected to be completed by the end of next year, is part of an overall national scheme projects to build and expand Saudi airports. Tabuk airport will be expanded to join the plot of international airports where the population of the region (Tabuk) is continuously increasing. The project area is of 675,000 sq. meters and will cost around SR221 billion and will be enough for 1,500 passengers per hour. The entire design of the airport has been enhanced by making spectacular fronts made of glass and aluminum in the main terminals and management buildings. The main terminals are to be of panoramic front design where the passengers will be able to view the airport piazzas and the airplanes activities. In the west wing of the airport, big areas for wide bodied carriers like (A-300), (B-747) and (A-777) in addition to another area for medium sized airplanes like (MD90) have been built. The project will include the foundation of a big main terminal of 15,800 sq. meter, a VIP hall of 1,233 sq. meters, a headquarter building of 1,272 sq. meters, an operation building of 1,272 sq. meters, a building of 1,900 sq. meters for maintenance, a cargo building of 1,436 sq. meters and a special building for power supply of 755 sq. meters. There will be also other facilities like central station for air-conditioning with an area of 1,261 sq. meters, water supply station of 1,278 and sewage grid station of 2,000 sq. meters. The airport will have a main gate on an area of 220 sq. meters along with three smaller gates of an area of 110 sq. meters each. The parking lot will be enough for 900 vehicles with another additional one for 200 cars.
