The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Jeddah Police Friday raided a gambling den in Al-Bawadi District in northern Jeddah and held 12 Nepalese men said to be the den's operators. The police action came after weeks of surveillance. The gang was also involved in managing an illegal lottery scheme and a special hall was also prepared for gambling linked to an international network. Some of those arrested were involved in the sale of lottery tickets worth SR40 and SR150 and the winners would get a prize by draws conducted in the middle and at the end of every month. Preliminary investigations revealed that a Nepalese expatriate had obtained the place on rent and converted into a gambling den. Police also seized cans of liquor during the raid. The arrested expatriates pointed at a man identified as Siraj as the kingpin of the network. He was running the location and assigning different responsibilities to various gang members. They used to get their share of the money every weekend. The head of the Field Unit in CID carried out the operation.
