member gang of manhole cover thieves has been arrested by police in Jeddah. Acting on reports of brand new covers going missing from several areas of the city, police keeping a watch out for suspicious behavior observed an Asian national loitering beside a manhole cover and had him under surveillance as he returned to the site late at night and whipped away the cover without even having to get out of his car. Police followed the man back to a site in Al-Khamra District where hundreds of manhole covers were found. A raid was organized and a total of five persons were arrested while trying to flee. The gang is also allegedly responsible for the theft of copper cables and aluminum pilfered from work sites.
