The Ministry of Education Saturday launched a charity foundation to help needy students pursue their studies further. The ‘Takafl' foundation, headed by Prince Faisal Bin Abdullah Bin Muhammad Al-Saud, Minister of Education, will be an independent legal entity registered with the the Ministry of Social Affairs. “The foundation's headquarters will be in Riyadh, and it will operate in the kingdom only, with branches for both male and female in the Ministry of Education,” Prince Faisal said. The foundation, he said, aims to develop a spirit of solidarity and charity work among the Ministry of Education staff members by taking care of the orphans and the needy students in the Kingdom. “Takaful” will focus on the physical and psychological behavior of the students to help them improve their academic performance, said Prince Faisal. The 15-member foundation board will be announced soon, a senior ministry official said. The tenure of the board members is four years and they will be working on a voluntary basis. “The membership of the board is restricted to Saudi employees of the Ministry of Education who are above 21 years of age and have no criminal cases registered against them,” said Prince Faisal. The foundations resources are limited to contributions from members, donations, gifts, and investments. Ministry of Social Affairs will be monitoring the work of the foundation, the minister added.
