Princess Abta Bint Miqrin Abdul Aziz inaugurated an exhibition of handmade items produced by unemployed women here on Sunday. The three-day exhibition held at the Hilton Hotel features a large variety of handmade products displayed in attractive Ramadan tents. After touring the exhibition, Princess Abta expressed her satisfaction with the professional level of the exhibition, the quality of the items on display and their coordination with the decoration chosen for the event. “It is wonderful to have an exhibition which gives an opportunity for unemployed women to become effective members of society,” she said. The exhibition, organized by Aleba Wal Roqi (Pride and Progress) Group in cooperation with Al-Oula Charitable Society, features 30 Saudi and international companies and 100 families who are displaying their handicrafts in addition to 30 Saudi designers who are exhibiting their work, which includes fashion, decoration and food. “This bazaar gives people a chance to do charity work in Ramadan. We are helping productive families promote their products, in addition to presenting handmade traditional jalabiyas (ankle-length tunics made from a variety of fabric),” said Nisrin Al-Edrisi, manager of the Women's Charity Association in Makkah. The exhibition gives Saudi women a chance to work together with foreign companies specialized in decoration and accessories. “This is a very good opportunity for Saudi women to present their products and to learn how to add some special touches to their handmade items,” said Sara Waleed Sharbatli of Saudi Decoration Engineering. Smira Niazi, who is exhibiting the women's clothes and home accessories that she made, said, “I always try to take advantage of such exhibitions to present my products. Participation in these events gives me new ideas and encourages me to try to create new products.” “This exhibition creates an attractive and relaxed atmosphere for the consumer which is conducive to sales,” she added.
