KHOBAR – The Saudi Diabetes and Endocrine Association (SDEA) will hold its annual educational symposium on how citizens and expatriates conduct and address their lifestyle, particularly their eating regimen, during the holy month of Ramadan. The symposium, called “Safe fasting for diabetic patients during the holy month of Ramadan,” will be held Thursday at Prince Sultan Center for Science and Technology (SciTech). “This event is planned to educate diabetic patients, their families and the public at large, and includes many educational activities, such as lectures, healthy food exhibition, healthy shopping, dental care counter, display of many successful stories, educational games, quizzes, measurement of blood sugar, blood pressure and Body Mass Index,” said Dr. Abdul-Aziz Al-Molhim, chairperson of the SDEA's Scientific Committee. The event also includes an educational section for children. The SDEA will distribute educational leaflets on the subject and gifts. SDEA, a non-governmental organization, has been successful in promoting voluntarism among medical students who volunteered and participated in many recent educational events to educate the community on diabetes prevention, obesity management and good nutrition, Al-Molhim said. Diabetic patients and their families are advised to read more on safe fasting for diabetic patients on the SDEA's website www.sdea.org.sa.
