On behalf of Prince Khaled Al-Faisal, Emir of Makkah Region, Prince Misha'l Bin Majed, Governor of Jeddah, inaugurated the Jeddah Science Oasis and recreation center and an exhibition on robots at the weekend. The Science Oasis, located in Al-Andolus Mall in the heart of Jeddah, is spread over an area of 4,000 sq. meters with six rooms and a laboratory for tests. Science exhibitions with more than 70 displays have been set up with the cooperation of international experts. “For the first time in Jeddah, we are providing an entertainment program for students of all ages based upon advanced principles of science education,” said Sayed Ahmed, the Science Oasis information officer. The Jeddah Science Oasis, which is a member of the World Federation of Scientific Centers, features interactive exhibitions which give young people a chance to learn about science while getting hands-on experience with scientific equipment “Prince Majed Bin Abdul Aziz was the honorary president of the Jeddah Center for Science and Technology, from its inception. The center had his blessings and full support in all of its activities,” said Dr. Mazan Abdul Razzaq, president of the Council of Jeddah Science Oasis. “We hope that the Science Oasis will become a source of information and education and that it will have the full support of educationalists and the Jeddah Municipality,” he added. According to Abdul Razzaq, the mission of the Science Oasis is to provide service to science education as well as tourism. “We hope that the Oasis will provide educational opportunities to talented youth and contribute to the dissemination of scientific knowledge. At the same time, it is a great attraction to those who are visiting Jeddah,” he added. At the conclusion of his visit to the Science Oasis, Prince Misha'l gave awards to the winners of the robot competition organized by the Science Oasis and the Jeddah Creativity Club.
