Andy Murray has defeated James Blake 7-5, 6-4 to win the Aegon Championships at Queen's Club for his first grass-court title. The top-seeded Murray became the first British player to win the tournament since Bunny Austin in 1938, who then went on to become the last Briton to reach the Wimbledon final. Murray took an early lead Sunday with a break in the third game, but Blake immediately leveled with a forehand winner down the line. Both players then easily held serve until 5-5, when Blake missed a forehand on break point. The second set was equally competitive until Murray broke for a decisive 4-3 lead when a fierce return forced Blake to net a backhand volley. Haas wins Halle Germany's Tommy Haas claimed his second top-ten scalp of the week on Sunday when he beat world number four Novak Djokovic 6-3, 6-7 (7-4), 6-1 in the Halle final to record his first ATP tournament victory since Memphis in 2007. This was the 31-year-old's first win over Djokovic, the top seed here after French Open champion Roger Federer withdrew on Tuesday. Having come from behind to beat compatriot Philipp Kohlschreiber in the semifinal, former world number two Haas, now ranked 41st in the world, wasted no time to take the first set with ease after just over half an hour. Djokovic had made hard work of beating qualifier Olivier Rochus from Belgium the day before in his semifinal and his faltering form continued. But the Serb regained some composure in the second set and with both players holding serve, a tie-breaker went Djokovic's way when Haas double-faulted on his own serve. At the start of the third set, Haas, who lost to Federer over five sets in Paris having squandered a 2-0 lead, broke Djokovic, but the Serb responded in the third game by racing into a 40-0 lead against serve for three break points. Haas dug deep to hold his serve to take a 3-0 lead, but although Djokovic held his serve to make it 3-1, Haas raced through to win the next three games to claim victory in just over two hours. Rybarikova wins title Little-known Slovakian Magdalena Rybarikova won her first WTA title 6-0, 7-6 against China's Li Na at the Edgbaston Classic on Sunday. Seeded 13, the 20-year-old Rybarikova used her serve-and-volley game effectively early on against the fourth-seeded Li to breeze through the first set. Rybarikova, ranked 38 places below Li, then ground out a close second set by winning the tie-break 7-2 for a victory that is likely to take the Slovakian to her highest ranking position. Her previous best was 46 in February this year. She was junior Wimbledon runner-up in 2006 but, after two attempts in the main draw, has yet to progress past the first round.
