The Career Expo 2009 for Women organized here on Wednesday at Prince Sultan University-College for Women (PSU-CW) was a great success. Around 30 companies and organizations from different sectors in the Kingdom that took part in the Career Expo have shown keen interest in recruiting women graduates in a number of job categories that include banking, IT, communications, healthcare and education. The Career Expo was held under the patronage of Princess Nouf Bint Sultan Bin Abdul Aziz. The women graduates were able to meet their prospective employers as the participating company representatives held one-to-one interviews for recruitment for positions on either a full or part-time basis during the summer vacation. Organized under the theme “Building for the Future”, the program aimed to support women students in the development of their skills and provide them with the best available career opportunities in the Kingdom. Prior to the Career Expo, a number of workshops were organized that introduced women graduates to the skills required in the job market and exposed them to what the Saudi business community has been looking for in university graduates. Moreover, the workshops were aimed at developing the skills necessary for job interviews and for improving the ability of students to write effective resumes. A number of workshops were also held in order to improve other skills related to the job market. Dr. Fadia Al-Saleh, Dean of PSU-CW, said the Career Expo was aimed at diversifying learning experiences while informing women graduates about the required skills for the job market. “The workshops focused on how to apply for job vacancies, improve one's skills and have a positive approach to life,” she said. Holding the Career Expo annually demonstrates the significance that PSU attaches to developing the educational environment and to allowing students a chance to express themselves effectively in the job market, Dr. Al-Saleh explained The Career Expo will go a long way in helping women graduates contribute to the economic development of the country and to learn how to be responsible citizens, she said. The women graduating from PSU-CW will prove their worth by competing in the job market through the effective utilization of their talent and educational and training skills, she added.
