A specialized department to look into cybercrimes will be formed in all the criminal investigation and criminal evidence departments in the country, it was revealed here Saturday. Lt. Gen. Saeed Al-Qahtani, the Director General of Public Security, made the announcement while gracing an investigation department workshop on financial crimes. He said that since cybercrime is posing a threat to public security, the need has arisen for the investigative authorities to use specialists and advanced equipment to uncover evidence for the judiciary. The workshop was an extension of ongoing efforts to step up public security. Participants included representatives from public security commands, the police from all regions, the Ministry of Justice, the Commission for Investigation and Prosecution, and specialists from the Naif Arab University for Security Sciences. Gen. Khidr Bin Aayed Al-Zahrani, Assistant Director General of Public Security for Security Affairs, said the workshop was aimed at developing new methods of investigation and consolidating cooperation so as to tackle the problem of financial crimes, including the fleecing of public funds.
