Almost 40 Sri Lankan companies involved in the production of agricultural, medical, food, travel, industrial and other products are participating in the first catalogue show for the promotion of trade which began at the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI) on Monday. The two-day show is organized by the Sri Lankan Consulate under the patronage of the Sri Lankan export development board with the cooperation of the JCCI with the aim of promoting trade between Saudi Arabia and Sri Lanka. “The purpose of the show is to introduce Saudi businessmen to Sri Lankan exports. Sri Lankan companies specializing in jewelry, food products, business systems, farms, tea, and others are showing their products to promote trade between the two countries,” said Abdulatiff Mohammed Lafeer, Sri Lankan Consul General, at the opening ceremony. “The catalogues of various export products are on display which is an effective way of promoting exports from Sri Lanka. Trade between Sri Lanka and Saudi Arabia is not new; it has its roots far back in history,” he said. “This show is the outcome of the visits of Saudi businessmen and industrialists to Sri Lanka,” he explained. “This is the first catalogue show of Sri Lankan products at JCCI, which is a great opportunity for Saudi businessmen and investors to learn about Sri Lanka and its products. I hope it serves to enhance the promotion of trade between Saudi Arabia and Sri Lanka,” said Mustafa A. K. Sabri, JCCI secretary general. “There are many industries in Sri Lanka which might be good for business in Saudi Arabia, especially jewels and jewelry, herbal medicines and natural products and even travel and tourism,” he said. The JCCI received an invitation from Sri Lanka inviting Saudi government officials to visit Colombo in order to enhance commercial cooperation between the two countries, he added.
