The Filipino driver responsible for the deaths of three persons and injuries to numerous others after stealing a bus and driving it the wrong way up a busy Jeddah highway last November has been transferred to a hospital for the mentally ill in Taif. According to a medical report 32-year-old Regour de Padua, who was working for a maritime transport company in Jeddah at the time of the incident, has been diagnosed as suffering from psychological disorders as a result of emotional shock. The report says that he has been refusing food and failing to cooperate with doctors, leading them to resort to force-feeding him via a tube inserted in his nose. A medical report says that he began to show signs of changes in behavior after receiving a letter from his fiancee informing him of her desire to end their relationship. Associates, colleagues and family also noted changes, albeit minor, in his behavior in the weeks prior to the incident. De Padua caused widespread panic on the morning of Tuesday, Nov. 11 of last year, when he stole a 55-seater bus and drove it at high speed along several roads in Jeddah before reaching Haramain Street which he sped up the wrong way, leading to numerous accidents, one of which proved fatal for three persons.
