A new study is calling for courts to view women with respect and take their cases with the degree of seriousness they deserve, notably in cases of women seeking a divorce and alimony. The study, entitled “Women's Civil Rights in Society” and produced by researcher Asma Al-Husein and the Ru'ya Center for Social Studies, says that women's dignity and respect need to be safeguarded to protect them from mental suffering, and calls for women to be “protected from destructive ideas through enlightenment and assistance against blackmail and threats”. The study recommends compulsory subjects in girls' education curricula on women's rights and duties. “Women need to be educated on matters such as marriage contracts and legal status, and their misconceptions and doubts need to be corrected through sermons in mosques and via the media,” the reports says.
