The Sheraton Riyadh Hotel and Towers turned off its lights to support the global campaign of Earth Hour 2009 last March for 60 minutes. It's the first time in the history of the Sheraton Riyadh to participate in such global activities and the only hotel in Riyadh which took part. The hotel actively promoted the Earth Hour 2009 to all of its guest's hotel associates expressing their concern and commitment in fighting climate change, particularly the global warming. The hotel also promoted the Earth Hour 2009 to all their corporate local accounts through their bi-monthly e-Newsletter and Sheraton Riyadh group in the online social networks such as Face book and Twitter. The heavy fall of rain didn't stop the hotel associates, headed by Stuart G. Birkwood, general manager of the Sheraton Riyadh Hotel, in celebrating Earth Hour 2009. The countdown started and lights turned off at exactly 8: 30PM local time, it was complete darkness in the hotel surroundings, dim lights and lighted candles were the common scenario inside the hotel including the restaurants for 60 minutes. “Sheraton Riyadh Hotel and Towers is committed in fighting the climate change and to be part of this global campaign is a remarkable experience, especially being the first hotel in Riyadh to do it,” said Maged Berri, director of Public Relations of the Sheraton Riyadh Hotel and Towers. “This is just the beginning of our participation and it will continue every year,” he added.
