More than 130 families are expected to take part in the Buraidah Kaleija Festival Tuesday. The festival, which is a celebration of the traditional Kaleija food of Qassim, will be the largest women event ever held in the region and is scheduled to be opened at Buraidah's King Khalid Cultural Center by Prince Faisal Bin Mishal, the Deputy Emir of Qassim. According to Abdurrahman Al-Khudair, head of the festival committee, the event was the brainchild of Prince Faisal and will give the region's women the opportunity to market their products. It is hoped that the festival will establish an occasion for the celebration of traditional Qassim cuisine and promote the region to the rest of the Kingdom and beyond as a tourist destination. Al-Khudair said the festival would reap financial rewards for participating families and increase interest in the region's traditional foods, especially Kaleija, a type of hard-crust pie made of flour, yeast, milk and egg.
