Princess Adela Bint Abdullah Al-Saud will open the second educational meeting on protection of children from sexual harassment and violence at Dar Al-Hekma College here Sunday. The meeting, which will be conducted in cooperation with the training center for kindergarten teachers, has as its theme: “The child is under our trusteeship”. Organized by the Jeddah branch of the Ministry of Education, the meeting, with participation of more then 500 female experts, teachers, and university students, will discuss violence against children, and how to make the community aware of sexual harassment and its negative physical and mental effects on children. “We are going to access the scientific, medical, social, and psychological research in the field of sexual harassment, and advocate the need for specialized training for those who are working in the area of domestic violence,” said Suzan Hilal Hamadi, Director of kindergarten management in Jeddah. “We want to make the community aware of the danger of the sexual abuse of children, and educate children about sexual abuse and about their rights and the seriousness of the violation of those rights,” said Hamadi. Four working papers will be discussed during the meeting on topics, such as, the medical, social, and psychological effects of sexual harassment and the media's role in developing awareness among children and their families.
