Khelawi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the King Fahd Causeway and Customs Director General, has said that the enforcement of the fingerprinting system to verify vehicle ownership at the causeway is proving problematic. Al-Khelawi said the new system would be officially enforced once the difficulties have been overcome. All staff working at the causeway are now covered with medical insurance, according to Al-Khelawi, and will be given added incentives in the future. “The conditions of customs inspectors working at the border points have already been improved,” he added. “I am also considering increasing the numbers of personnel at the causeway, specifically for customs inspectors in order to meet the needs of the planned expansion,” Al-Khelawi said. “There is no possibility of increasing the causeway's capacity,” he said, which he described as “fixed at 10,000 vehicles per day.”
