Bangladesh's left-arm spinner Abdur Razzak has been cleared to resume bowling in international cricket, the national board said here Thursday, ending his ban over a suspect arm action. Razzak was suspended by the International Cricket Council (ICC) in November after the second Test between Bangladesh and New Zealand at home. “He appeared for a reassessment of his action at the Australian Institute of Sports in Canberra on Feb. 23 and has been subsequently cleared,” the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) said in a statement. “The ICC has informed the BCB that Razzak's bowling technique has changed to the extent that both his stock delivery and faster ball are now within the ICC tolerance level of 15 degrees and his action is now legal.” Razzak, 26, was also reported for a suspect action in 2004 but was cleared after corrective measures. He has taken 111 wickets in 81 One-Day Internationals and seven in five Tests. Kallis to captain SA South African all-rounder Jacques Kallis will captain the side in the third Test against Australia next week. Kallis replaces Ashwell Prince, the official vice captain, who was recalled to the team after captain Graeme Smith broke his finger in the second Test in Durban. Smith suffered the injury while batting in the first innings of a match South Africa lost by 175 runs to go 2-0 down in the series with one Test left. Cricket South Africa (CSA) said Kallis was taking over “...to allow Prince to concentrate on his new position of opening batsman.” Prince has represented his country in 47 Tests but never as an opener. Arnel in NZ Test squad New Zealand has named uncapped pace bowler Brent Arnel in its squad to face India in the first of three Tests starting on March 18. Injury-prone all-rounder Jacob Oram has been left out due to concerns he is not fit enough for Test cricket. His place has been taken by James Franklin and opening bowler Chris Martin also returns following an injury lay-off. Batsman Martin Guptill was called into the squad for the Hamilton Test for the first time after scoring 391 runs at an average of 48.87 in 11 One-Day Internationals since making his ODI debut in January. Selection panel head Glenn Turner said Thursday that 30-year-old Arnel had earned his selection after being the best performing New Zealand A bowler in the series against the touring England Lions, the second-string Test side. “He's bowled well consistently over a period of time, and has the advantage of having done quite a bit of bowling in recent four-day matches,” Turner said. Franklin returns to the Test side on the strength of his performances for New Zealand A after returning this season following a lengthy lay
