‘MONEY is not everything', is an axiom that holds true for many in this acquisitive world. Laws exist in every cultural society, and when a law-oriented mind is combined with a kind heart, issues are raised and solved with both a logical and a legal approach. Basha Nawaz Khan, an Indian senior law attorney in Jeddah, is a notable figure in the international legal world. He offers free legal counseling to overseas communities here, including those from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Philippines, Sri Lanka, etc. He guides law students in India and has handled legal cases for several bureaucrats. Born in the Guntur District of Andhra Pradesh, India, Khan believes that age is not a limitation for development and dynamism. Many expatriates complain about the upping of airfares during the peak vacation season. “I will file a case against any such airline on behalf of expatriate laborers who are unable to afford the costs,” said Khan. Khan is the grandson of (late) Khan Bahadur Rahim Khan Saheb, a leading businessman during the 1890s. His father, Khan Saheb Ahmed Khan, was a regal landlord, and brother Advocate Feroze Khan Saheb, a leading lawyer in Andhra Pradesh. “My grandfather was a freedom fighter, a principal donor who accompanied Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru. He sacrificed his life for India,” Khan said, taking pride in his family background. Khan has been honored with various achievement awards, such as, the honorary ‘Bharat Ki Shan, Basha Nawaz Khan' awarded by Dr. Ausaf Sayeed. He heads the BNK International Law Firm (International Laws), founded by him over twenty-two years ago. “Over the years, the firm has developed and expanded through our dedicated work. With our heritage of high standards and enthusiasm, the BNK firm has transformed into a full-fledged law corporation with offices in India, UK and Saudi Arabia, providing a wide range of legal services, including a section for the protection of NRI properties in India,” said Khan. He is a member of the International Bar association of London, UK, and has other prestigious professional affiliations. “We are fully equipped to handle a range of legal services related to all economic, commercial and civil activities. Our experts specialize in all types of legal advising and agreement/contract document writing,” Khan said. He has a record of winning legal disputes in various countries, such as, India, USA, UK, UAE, Norway, Germany, Greece, France, Singapore, South Africa, Denmark, China, Switzerland, Japan, Malaysia, Kenya, Indonesia, etc. “Commercial work is subject to many issues, such as, compliance with international laws, contracts, responding to notices, and other legal documents. One wrong or ignored response can at times cause problems that can carry over for the next few years,” Khan said. He mostly deals in commercial cases, land scams and protection of property, and expatriate labor disputes. He said his aim to research the Indian Constitution and make necessary amendments to it will be recommended to the concerned legal authorities and to the President of India. “Amendments are required especially to enhance the legal powers of women, their rights, protection, safety, property shares and distribution as per the Muslim law/ Hindu law/Christian law, dowry cases, and accidental death cases,” said Khan. Khan hopes to conduct an international legal conference next year in India. Asked about the Congress Party's proposal to offer a Rajya Sabha seat to him, Khan said: “Whether it is a seat in the Parliament, a state governor's seat, or an ambassadorship to any country, I am concentrating only on my legal services now. But if required, I would like to provide legal services to the Congress members and politicians for the betterment of our country, India,” he said.
