Lionel Messi scored twice as leader Barcelona overcame Numancia 4-1 at the Nou Camp to go 15 points clear at the top of the Primera Liga on Saturday. Modest Numancia is the only team to have beaten Barca in the league, winning 1-0 at home on the opening day of the season, and they made life difficult for their hosts early on. But Messi, twice, Samuel Eto'o and Thierry Henry all scored after the break as Pep Guardiola's side stepped up a gear, and they moved on to 53 points from 20 games. Jose Barkero's blistering freekick for the visitors had made it 2-1 after 61 minutes. Second-placed Real Madrid hosts Deportivo Coruna at the Bernabeu on Sunday, when Sevilla welcome Racing Santander. Earlier, struggling Osasuna came back to draw 1-1 at Villarreal with a spirited performance at the Madrigal. The visitors were rewarded for their ambition when substitute Dady scored from close range following an error by Pascal Cygan in the 65th minute, cancelling out Giuseppe Rossi's stylish first-half opener. Villarreal remained fifth with 34 points, kept out of the Champions League places on goal difference by Valencia. Osasuna climbed off the bottom, drawing level on 14 points with Real Mallorca but above them on goal difference. On Sunday, it's: Real Madrid vs. Deportivo La Coruna; Sevilla vs. Racing Santander; Malaga vs. Atletico Madrid; Recreativo Huelva vs. Real Betis; Valladolid vs. Espanyol; Almeria vs. Athletic Bilbao; and Getafe vs. Sporting Gijon. Juventus goes top In Milan, Juventus moved level at the top with Inter Milan when Claudio Marchisio's first Serie A goal sealed a fortunate 1-0 win over Fiorentina on Saturday. Claudio Marchisio's first league goal for Juventus came when he ran onto a pass by del Piero and lifted the ball over Fiorentina goalkeeper Sebastien Frey in the 21st. “Really, it is great,” said Marchisio, “I have to thank Alex (Del Piero) who provided a great assist. We know it is an important goal and now tomorrow we'll see how Inter do.” Mario Santana went close to an equalizer for Cesare Prandelli's side, but his header rebounded off the crossbar. Alberto Gilardino then had a goal wrongly ruled out for offside. “Mistakes happen and sometimes they help your team,” said Juventus coach Claudio Ranieri. “Maybe the linesman should have seen it but there have been times when we have suffered in this way.” Inter can reclaim the lead outright on Sunday if it at least draws at home to Sampdoria. In Saturday's early game, Vincenzo Italiano smashed the ball home from distance in injury time to give Chievo a 1-0 win at fellow Serie A struggler Reggina.
