This is in response to the article “The ‘kafala' system must go,” by Khaled Almaeena in Saudi Gazette (Oct. 4). The current ‘kafala' system is fine, as long as the sponsors honor the contract and abide by their own country's law and regulations. Announcing new laws daily and new suggestions from Saudi citizens will bring more opportunities for Saudi sponsors to blackmail foreigners again. It is time to recognize that many Saudis do not abide by the laws and they need to be punished. Saudi labor laws have been clear and fair since the beginning. If sponsor is good, who'll need to approach labor office/authorities? Light1, Online response
