JEDDAH — The Bureau of Investigation and Public Prosecution has cleared the two victims in the Corniche harassment case of any wrongdoing.
The Corniche harassment case came to light a month ago when a video went viral on social media showing two girls being mobbed by a large number of young men, who were dubbed “hunting wolves” by social media sites.
“The case was forwarded to Jeddah Criminal Court. The suspects in the case had accused the girls of starting the harassment, saying they had only reacted. But the court found their accusations were baseless and cleared the girls of all charges. But they are still required to respond to court summons until the trial is over,” said the source.
The source said three of the seven suspects arrested were proven guilty.
“The harassers included a minor who was 17-year-old. He was sent to juvenile court while the other two convicts were sent to Jeddah Prison Department to be detained until further notice. The minor was then released with a bail by his guardian,” said the source.
The source added the 17-year-old was not among the detained suspects as the police had arrested him later after locating his residence.
“The trial still continues as the case is considered a violation of the public right of safety. The judge has not issued any sentence yet. However, a sentence should be issued soon as the two suspects have already admitted they were present at the scene and harassed the victims,” said the source.
