Three Emirati soldiers were killed defending the internationally recognized government in Yemen, the UAE army said on Saturday in a statement, the official Emirates News Agency (WAM) reported. The armed forces said the three, who all have the rank of first corporal, were killed while performing their “national duty” by taking part in the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen, the statement added. The southern port city of Aden was the last refuge of President Abdrabbu Mansour Hadi's government before he fled into exile with his government in Saudi Arabia in March. He fled after the Iranian-backed Houthi militia attempted a coup and waged an offensive to claim power in Yemen. Since late March, the Saudi-led coalition supported Hadi loyalists with air strikes to halt advances by the Houthis, who seized Sanaa last year before pressing south into the port city of Aden. — Al Arabiya
