JEDDAH — The Bureau of Investigation and Public Prosecution (BIP) accused a businesswoman of being fraudulent and dishonest with the authorities and forwarded her case to the penal court.
A BIP source said the businesswoman submitted a proposal to the pertinent authorities asking permission to hold celebrations to mark the first anniversary for her company.
“The proposal stated the event will be attended by company employees and its program will include an opening ceremony, an introductory presentation, honoring of some employees, gift distribution and a dinner,” said the source.
The authorities granted her permission to hold the event as long as there are separate sections for men and women, the rules and regulations are followed and the event does not turn into anything more than an anniversary celebration, the source said.
“The Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice submitted a report stating the event turned into a concert for a singer. The businesswoman had posted an ad about the event and sold tickets that cost SR350 through Instagram, all of which was not stated in her proposal,” said the source.
The source added the poster included sponsors for the event and ticket selling points.
“The businesswoman was arrested by Jeddah Police. She confessed that she owned the company that held the event. She also said she had planned to invite a singer and sold 300 tickets out of 500,” said the source.
The source added the businesswoman claimed she did not include these details in the proposal because she was not aware that it was necessary.
“The prosecution accused the businesswoman of being dishonest in her proposal in order to hold a singing concert for men and women at a hall. The case was forwarded to the Jeddah Criminal Court and the hearing will begin in a few days,” said the source.
The source said the event was suspended before it was held and all ticket fees will be reimbursed.
