Muhammad Mujahid Syed Saudi Gazette JEDDAH – The festivities of Eid Al-Fitr weer marked with fervor in Jeddah as Saudis and expatriates alike love to celebrate Eid with great fanfare. Eid, popularly known as Eid-Al-Fitr, is a festival observed by the Muslim community to celebrate the conclusion of the month of fasting. It symbolizes faith. Eid is celebrated on the first date of Shawwal, that is, the 10th month of the Hijra calendar. During the festival, Muslims exchange gifts, greeting their neighbors as a mark of solidarity and brotherhood. Majlis-e-Ilm-o-Adab, Jeddah, a social and literary organization, organized Eid Milan program and hosted a luncheon. In this program Indian and Pakistani expatriate took part with great enthusiasm. Muhammad Jamil, a famous naat singer from Faisalabad, Pakistan, recited a naat and two famous poems about Eid. Most of the expatriate participants were seen teary eyed on the following couplet of his poem: Eid aur ek mujh ghareeb ki Eid, Pheeki pheeki si sooni sooni si Eid Hai teri deed Eid se bhi haseen, aa mere chand warna kaisi Eid Another couplet of his also touched the chords of the people. Eid hum per yeh zulm dhati hai Ghar ki her aan yaad aati hai The program began with the recitation a few verses from the Holy Qur'an by Badruddin Aali. It was chaired by Muhammad Farooq Ansari. An Eid poem was sung in chorus by the children Syed Muhammad, Syed Muazzam and Syed Mubashshir greeted the guests. Yawar Muzaffarpuri, an Indian poet, recited his poem about Eid. Muhammad Ali and his friends, who came from Riyadh to perform Umrah, also participated in the program. Syed Amir Naqvi proposed the vote of thanks. Zabihullah Khan was master of the ceremony.
