The Shariah Court in Jeddah on Tuesday sentenced a man to three months in prison and 200 lashes for harassing his widowed neighbor through SMS messages. The sentence was pronounced despite the fact exchanged love messages between the two were presented before the court. The man is married, and his wife was taking care of the neighbor whose husband died three years ago. The widow started sending the man messages stating that she wanted to marry him, to which he responded positively but insisted on concealing the marriage. The woman refused, and he decided to end the relationship. The widow then told his wife and filed a case against the man for harassment. The man confessed and said he intended to legally marry the woman.
