Hydration is essential in Ramadan. Especially for skincare. Drink lots of water, keep your skin moisturized and have fruits rich in vitamins.
You can opt for instantly hydrating treatments or try specific facials for further nourishment. Refresh and nourish your skin this Ramadan with tips by Dr. Mona Mirza from Biolite Aesthetic Clinic in Dubai.
Fasting is known for a multitude of benefits including improving toxicity (detoxing) in the body, but Mirza explains this can also cause breakouts and other skin issues.
She said during Ramadan the main concern tends to be dehydration especially due to the lack of liquids, heat and air conditioning. As a result the skin looks dull and often breaks out.
Types of facials include:
Oxygen Boosting Therapy - The oxygen therapy provides the ultimate in oxygen skin rejuvenation by replenishing the loss of oxygen and energy.
Placenta Facial - for skin tightening. It is rich in nourishment.
Suki Organic Facial - For all skin types, this soothes, hydrates, balances and nourishes the skin.
Dermasweep - Skin is left smooth through stimulating blood cells and cleaning the pores.
So how often does one require skin treatments? “Generally, each treatment depends very much on the clients skin,” Mirza explains.
“If the skin is very undernourished I would recommend the Oxygen boosting and Placenta facial weekly for instance.
However if it's relatively balanced then these treatments can be taken every two weeks until the skin is nourished sufficiently, in which case you can do them monthly.
For very sensitive skin, the Suki Organic facial is wonderful and I would generally recommend this monthly in order for the skin to settle down after a treatment.
Dermasweep is an exfoliating and nourishing vitamin infused treatment in one. This is ideal for dull skin and I recommend this twice a month until the skin is sufficiently nourished.”
However if this seems like a lot, there are a few DIY's that women can practice at home. Apply plenty of moisturizer at night to main a healthy nourished skin by day.
Avoid the mid-day sun and always wear sun protection, and if you wash your face, reapply the moisturizer. She said make sure you break your fast with a warm glass of honey and lemon, which will instantly trigger your metabolism as well as cleanse your insides.
Fruit salads and soups are very popular during Ramadan time, not only will your skin begin to detox, it can also help you lose weight.
In case of breakouts, apply equal parts of apple cider vinegar and honey into a liquid paste and apply to the affected areas for 15 minutes at night.
