Skin care tips through the ages
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 13 - 03 - 2012

Just as our children need change as they grow, so does our skin. This is a good time to take a closer look at skin care needs of mothers at different stages in their life:The 20's
It's the age to start thinking of prevention and maintenance of your youthful look. The 20's is the best time and it isn't too early. In fact if you don't maintain your skin at this age, it will show this neglect in your 30's and 40's.
Your daily regimen: Always try to keep it simple and minimize using harsh ingredients. Choose a gentle cleanser. If you have blemishes, use an acne gel wash. To maintain youthful radiance, choose a cream with a good antioxidant such as white tea extract which is present in Pond's Age Defense Multi-Benefit Illuminating Cream SPF 15 PA++.
In-clinic treatments: Deep medical cleansing facials from time to time, and light chemical peels with AHA or glycolic acid to get rid of any impurities that start to appear.
The 30'sMild signs of aging usually start to show with few scattered ?ne wrinkles and some deeper lines with expression. Sun damage and spots will appear on your skin if you haven't been careful with sun protection in your 20's.
Your daily regimen: Try a cleanser with AHA to get rid of built-up dead skin and to promote rejuvenation. Use creams with a retinol base to fight the few signs of aging. Don't forget to start using a regular eye cream. For a good, full skincare regimen, try the Pond's Age Miracle range containing advanced CLA4 complex which is a combination of CLA, AHA, Retinol, and Retinol Boosters.
In-clinic treatments: Stronger chemical peels with TCA for the fine lines, and microdermabrasion to unify skin tone are good problem solvers. It might be a good time to discuss with your dermatologist the options of botulinum toxin A and ?ller injections for those deep lines. The 40's
In this age, more fine lines start to creep up; the deeper lines are not only there with expression, and you will notice mild skin laxity in the jawline and in the neck.
Your daily regimen: You should definitely include a cleanser with a chemical exfoliate; consider using a very soft facial brush to wash the face. Compared to your 30's, anti-aging creams you should add are concentrated serums or prescription treatments with a stronger retinoid. In-clinic treatments: Regular skin hydrating and rejuvenation mesotherapy sessions can be considered. Discuss with your dermatologist the options of laser treatments such as Nd:YAG or fractional Co2 for skin tightening. The 50'sDryness, thin skin and laxity are the major issues with skin at this age. Here you should concentrate more on how to maintain skin moisture and collagen-building.
Your daily skin care regimen: Include a thicker moisturizer and less harsh peeling cleansers. Continue with your restoring and collagen-strengthening ingredients in creams and serums such as strong retinoid, vitamin C, and antioxidants. In-clinic treatments: There are many non-invasive and invasive treatment options for skin laxity and collagen rebuilding. Treatment technologies range from lasers, ultrasound, and radio frequency to more invasive skin resurfacing modalities all to discuss with your cosmetic dermatologist as well as the option of surgery.
