RIYADH — Suhail Ahmad was elected the new president of the Riyadh chapter of Aligarh Muslim University Alumni, which also elected a new committee for next two years.
“Grooming the young generation is our top priority said the newly elected president Ahmad, who also thanked all the AMUA members and election commissioners for being given the opportunity to serve.
Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) is one of the pioneer educational Institution of India. Many alumni of AMU have been living and working in the Kingdom.
A committee of 10 members was chosen. A colorful installation ceremony was held at a local restaurant where many representatives of various Indian organization heads attended.
In the first meeting the committee members elected the office bearers.
The new office bearers are Suhail Ahmed, president, Salman Khalid, vice president, Mohammad Arshad Ali, secretary, S. Mohammed Mutayyab, treasurer (1), Dr. Abdul Ahad Chowdhry, treasurer (2), Feroz Khan, Irshad Ahmad Khan, Mohammed Arif, Abrar Husain and Babar Ali are executives.
Outgoing President Dr. Ahmad Basha presented a detailed report of the committee's activities while also highlighting the role of Aligarh Muslim University.
Dr. Basha said AMU, over the years, has produced many icons in tennis, cricket hockey and literacy namely Lala Amaranth, Poet Ali Sardar Jafri, Sharyar, Qurrat Alain, while many other have earned recognition from the government of India.
He added that in his tenure more than 20 functions — cultural and literary were held. Earlier Dr. Abdul Ahad Chowdhry recited verses of holy Qur'an to start the event and Tariq Masood, a senior Alig, preside over the ceremony.
Mohammed Zaikham Khan conducted the proceedings and Salman Khalid delivered the vote of thanks.
Outgoing Vice-President Naseem Akthar handed over the balance sheet of the organization to Suhail Ahmed.
The planned committees will work in the field of education, culture, and welfare.
