Ramos, Dela Cruz bag Lenovo titles

RIYADH — Atoi Ramos and Lani Dela Cruz ruled the Lenovo 2015 Kalayaan Cup, winning the most coveted Masters titles in the men's and ladies' division, respectively.

Ramos convincingly out-bowled highly rated and multi-awarded bowler Ernee Noto in the knockout finals of the Masters Event, with a two-game series of 419 against 402. Dela Cruz, who is on a comeback trail out-classed Rachel Tismo with a two-game score of 389 to 362.

The event which was held at the Universal Bowling Center in Riyadh recently was organized by the Unified Filipino Tenpin Bowlers of Riyadh (UFTBR) in celebration of the Philippine Independence Day. Lenovo, the main sponsor of the event, handed 14 mobile phones and 2 tablets to the event champions.

Team “Batas”, headed by Noto, bagged the Team Event title in a come from behind fashion, by rolling an incredible combined score of 966 in the last game. Other members of the team were Stephen Solomon, Celis Viloria and Joe Garrido.

Team Cagayan Valley (Fathi Abdulaziz, Ruel Pingol, Irene Aril and Jun Alberto) came second; Boracay (James Frizzle, Ronald Cruz, Alex Armada and James Boyd) third; Davao Eagles (Jojo Paciano, Bobby Jamora, Ramos and Donjie Mapalad) fourth and La Republica (Ismael Viloria, Jojo Gabriel, Rodel Maranca and Chiron Agbisit) fifth. The tandem of Noto and Solomon also took home the Doubles Event plum with Jamora and Mapalad second and Arnold Jesena and Resty De Jesus (team Laguna) third.

Steve Perez of team Kapayapaan bagged the Singles Event trophy in the men's division, followed by Alberto and Doy Del Moral.

Vicky Vitug won the Singles Event in the Ladies Division, followed by Tismo and Haidee Urbano.

Solomon captured his third championship by topping the men's division All Events competition, followed by Alberto and Del Moral. Urbano bagged the ladies division All Events title with Irene Pua second and Vitug third.

Other winners in the men's Masters Event were Solomon and Fathi (third) and Perez, Ismael Viloria, Ronald Cruz and Mike Ecalnir (third). Pua and Susie Rivera placed third in the ladies Masters Event.

Aside from the main event sponsor Lenovo, other sponsors include Nikai Hyundai, Philippine Airlines, Sky Freight, Al-Rabie, Steakhouse, Fire grill, Piatto, The Good Ship Lollipop and Pizza Inn. Ezzedin Tago, Philippine ambassador, graced the awarding ceremonies and congratulated the event organizers, sponsors and participants for the success of the event. Also present were Abdulrahman Al-Khalifa, Montaser Alnahas of Lenovo and Mubashir Hussain Malik of Nikai Hyundai.

UFTBR thanked all participants and the event sponsors for their continued support to the annual bowling event and invited bowlers to join its next big event — Ramadan Goodwill Games.
