JEDDAH – Prince Khaled Al-Faisal, emir of Makkah region and adviser to Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, has issued directives to form a committee to look into the reasons because of which the work on Makkah-Jeddah Road parallel to Al-Haramain Road stopped for nearly two years. The work, which started four years ago, stopped due to some encroachments, Muhammad Madani, director general of the transport ministry branch in Makkah region, said in a statement carried by the Saudi Press Agency on Saturday. However, the Emir of Makkah intervened and directed the authorities concerned including the municipalities of Makkah and Jeddah, the police and representatives of the governorates to inspect the site and take the necessary measures. After the emir's intervention the encroachments were removed and work started. The under construction road is 72-km long and links Makkah with Jeddah. It starts from the intersection of Airport Road with Al-Nuzha district in northern Jeddah and extends to the holy city. The project has been divided into three stages.
