JEDDAH — The Urdu Academy Jeddah and Telangana Employees Forum have expressed their appreciation to the Telangana government for issuing orders to teach Urdu as a compulsory language in all schools in the state. Syed Jamal Qadri, president of the Urdu Academy, and Moazzam Ali Iftekhar, president of Telangana Employees Forum, had handed a joint submission in this regard to Deputy Chief Minister of Telangana Mohammad Mahmood Ali during his recent visit to the Kingdom. The resolution was approved earlier by a gathering of Urdu lovers in the city led by academy officials Khalid Hussain, Shamsuddin Quadri and Mohammad Abbas Khan. Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandershekhar Rao signed an ordinance to implement the decision starting from the new academic year. “We are grateful to our beloved Chief Minister Chandershekhar Rao, Deputy Chief Minister Mohammad Mahmood Ali and Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of Education K. Sri Hari for their statements in defense of making Urdu mandatory in all schools of the state,” said Qadri. Referring to developments after the return of Mahmood Ali to Hyderabad with the resolution submitted by Urdu Academy, Qadri said they had received the news with great pleasure. He said with the strong backing of AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi, Chief Minister Rao announced the decision to make Urdu as the first language of Telangana state in par with Telugu. “Our Academy is also thankful to the Urdu loving organizations of Saudi Arabia, who stood vehemently with us and extended their full support,” Qadri said.
