Molouk Y. Ba-Isa Saudi Gazette We've written about coding in the Fun Times before. Coding is what makes it possible for people to create computer software, apps and websites. Everything that you can see on the screen of a computer is made out of code. Facebook, Instagram, saudigazette.com.sa – these are all created from code. There are many different coding languages. Here's an example of code in the python language: print “Hello, have a great day!” This is the code for an actual program that will print the words, “Hello, have a great day!” Now you might think that coding can only be learned in high school or college. That's not true. Children as young as three-years-old can learn the ideas behind coding. Indian company, “Coding Palz” has created a series of storybooks to teach children three to eight years old, how to code through stories. The books are written by Ayesha Hameed, who used to be a Microsoft Developer. She has help from Mohamed Ibrahim, who used to be an SAP Developer. In the storybooks, Json, Jazz and Ruby the robot, are pals who live in Codezilla town. From winning dance competitions to securing their treasure, they solve challenges using their coding skills. The actions the “Palz” (pals) take in the stories and the things they say, show the basics of coding and the ways to make computer programs. Sometimes the Palz' coding experiments leave a kitchen overflowing with soup. But no worries, they know how to get things back on track. The stories are fun and the drawings are colorful. These are exciting books to chase boredom away. There are already four books in the series including “Coding for Kids,” “Jazzay Fonts,” “Json's Password,” and “If Ruby Dances.” To get the newest books, parents should look at https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/coding-palz-kids-learn-coding-through-stories--2. For just $5, five more e-books will be sent in June.
